Centuries-old Chestnut of Canalaz

In the heart of the Natisone Valleys, there is a majestic tree of almost four centuries, 10 meters wide by 16 meters high: it is the Secular Chestnut of Canalaz, the largest in all of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Arrived in the village of Liessa, cross the bridge over the Cosizza, turn right, leave the church on the left, follow the signs for Passo Monte San Martino on the left, continue for 3-4 kilometers as far as the house of Canalaz, at this point you will find the signs with directions. Leave the car and walk, first entering the small village where you can also admire a small museum of ancient objects, and after a short walk you will find it in front of you in all its immensity.
They look like 2 stems fused together in an eternal embrace, or a single stem grooved by an ancient lightning. At the foot of the plant there is a metal box which contains not only the signature book, but also a sheet with a description of the tree and its meaning.
